New Extended Format! 3/27/2008
The Irish Coffee Hour is now 2 hours long!

We realize that the name of the show is now misleading, so we will now be referring to the second hour as "Irish Coffee Hour: Part Deux"

Listen in every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm!

Triumphant Return 5/9/2007
After a long and cold radio silence, the Irish Coffee Boys would like to annouce their triumphant return to the airwaves, next academic year.

As loyal fans of the ICH are surely aware, the show has been on hiatus this past year, because both Tom and I are studying abroad.

With our heads full of knowledge and our world-views freshly expanded, Tom and I plan break our 18+ month radio silence in September 2007!

The Irish Coffee Hour team held a business meeting on the small island of Capri, off the coast of Italy and spent a very progress-driven weekend talking shop about all the improvements awating our growing listening community. (Ok, in reality we spent most of the time lounging on the beach and catching up on each-other's lives, but we did talk about how much we missed doing the show.)

On a side note, photos from the "meeting" can be found on my blog.

I know I speak for Tom as well when I say that we cannot wait to get back on the air, and are looking forward to rocking out to a few newly discovered european tunes along with a few old favorites.

Thanks to everyone, for your support!

New Guestbook Feature 6/5/2006
Hey Guys,
I was perusing the Guestbook the other day and realized we have been innendated with spammers!
I have implemeneted a new feature to try and cut down on some of the junk messages.
Its a technique called CAPTCHA and so far it seems to work pretty well.
I hope you all enjoy the improved spam-free guestbook!

A correction. 3/27/2006
Those of you who tuned in this past Tuesday were treated to the delightful twang of Duane Eddy's guitar, as we featured his album Twangin' the Golden Hits (RCA 2993, 1965) on our album edition of the show. Unfortunately, we once again displayed our lack of professionalism by making assumptions about the character of the album. I claimed that the album is a compilation of past Duane Eddy hits, when, in fact, it is not. I was released as an album of new material for Duane Eddy. Here is a review from All Music Guide explaining the content of the album:

--'Twangin' the Golden Hits is a deceptive title -- it suggests that the album contains nothing but Eddy's greatest hits. Well, it contains one great hit -- "Rebel Rouser" -- in a re-recorded version. The rest of the album is Eddy tackling rock instrumental hits like "Rumble," "Honky Tonk," "Raunchy" and "Tequila," as well as smooth pop instrumentals like "Last Date," "Theme from 'A Summer Place, '" "The River Kwai March" and "More (Theme from 'Mondo Cane')." It's a weird mix, but it is often entertaining, even if it isn't memorable.--

This research, of course should have been done before the show, and I apologize for the misinformation.

Also, although I gave the track listing for the first side of the album, I failed to do so for the second side. The tracks for that side appear in the following order: "Tequila", "Stranger on the Shore", "More (Theme from 'Mondo Cane')","The River Kwai March", "Swingin' Shepard Blues", and "Rumble".

As a side note, All Music Guide gives this album only two and one half stars, but I personally believe (if you exclude "The River Kwai March") this is an injustice to a fine record.

Adam Records Promo 1/30/2006
Hey Everyone,
I have been asked to record a promo to be played with the other PSAs to try and recruit people to be RAs for next year. While this is a pretty simple task, it makes me feel that much more like a professional DJ.
I was honored to write, produce and star in this recording. Keep in mind this is the first time I have ever attempted something like this, and that it had to be somewhat cheesey by its very nature.
You can hear the promo here.
Enjoy.

DEAD AIR 12/14/2005
Following on the coat-tails of the exciting .COM annoucnement is one of sheepish clarification. Apparently due to a technical difficulty in the studio yesterday, the show did not air. I can assure you that Tom and I were in the studio talking and playing music per usual, but sadly nothing was heard in radioland. We both of course feel somewhat silly that we were talking to no one for approximately 47 minutes, but we are hoping to post this show on the web for all those who missed it.
Thanks for your support,
Adam

IrishCoffeeHour.COM 12/13/2005
The Irish Coffee Hour has just hit the internet big time with its very own REAL DOMAIN!
Just last night Adam became the proud owner of IrishCoffeeHour.com and immediately set it up as the new URL.
We're both really excited about the new domain, and hopefully it will pave the way for great new things to come (*cough* podcast *cough*).
Thanks for listening, and enjoy the new ad-free site.

p.s. IrishCoffeeHour.cjb.net should still work, but the .com has no pop-up ads and is easier to remember.

ICH Devotees,

Listen live 24/7 to all of your favorite shows including (of course) the Irish Coffee Hour anywhere in the world. The stream is in Real format so both Mac and PC can enjoy the broadcast.
Thanks for listening,

Vinyl Revival 11/29/2005
We just wanted to let everyone know that today's show will be a special one. Tom and I thought it would be a good idea to have a show where we played one album straight through as it was meant to be heard. The cool part of this idea is that since Tom and I both collect vinyl records, and now have access to Studio C with a DJ booth, we would play the vinyl edition of the album. For our inaugural show in this format, we have chosen Pink Floyd's "Meddle." For background purposes, the album was released in 1971 and is their seventh album.
We hope you enjoy the experiment - we're looking forward to it.

WE'RE BACK 10/4/2005
Hey Guys,
We're Back!
Same time, same station, same great music.
Looking forward to another great year of taking your calls and playing what you want to hear.

Think Different 6/17/2005
College is amazing. My past freshman year has been unbelievable – the best year of my life by leaps and bounds. I love the college environment because it allows the freedom of learning and the wonderful hippy socialism that only works when implemented on a college campus. As you may have guessed by my music selection on the show, the length of my hair and my general relaxed attitude towards life I think hippies had the right idea.

Steve Jobs, an idol of mine, spoke at the Stanford Commencement ceremony on June 12, 2005. Steve, a well known hippy, is perpetually changing the face of personal computing after creating it in the first place. Being a geek, he has my eternal gratitude. Steve, while being undeniably gifted with technology, is much more than just the average techie. Steve Jobs is a visionary – one of the truly great creative minds of our time. His speech at Stanford has a wonderful sentiment and I wholeheartedly recommend you read it. It concludes with a great hippy phrase that I would like to pass on to you now.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

Carl Filipiak 6/16/2005
Hey Everyone,
I know it’s the summer and the Irish Coffee Hour is sadly on hiatus until the fall (drawbacks of a COLLEGE radio station) but I hope everyone still in the Worcester Area are enjoying the commercial and talk free music being piped out from Mount St. James.
I’m posting to spread the word about a musician that I stumbled across on iTunes Radio. His name is Carl Filipiak and I heard his rendition of Little Wing on aTTeNTioN sPan radio and was blown away. I’m not a huge fan of jazz music only because I’m not very experienced with it – it’s a genre that I have never explored. This guy does a bunch of Hendrix covers and some really amazing guitar solos of his own. He is not listed in the iTunes music store and I had little luck tracking him down on the various file sharing networks but I did stumble across a page on the Washington Post Website that has a few legal, free mp3s to download. They are well worth a listen. His cds are available from his website if you like the style.
Happy Listening,
Adam

New Pope 4/19/2005

Those of you who listened to the show today heard me talking about how freakishly disturbing looking the new pope is and probably agree that I'm now officially going to hell. I just thought I'd toss a picture online to show you what I was talking about. Enjoy.

Ellis Paul Rocks Our Collective Sox 4/13/2005

My mind is blown.

Those of you who listened to the show yesterday heard us talking about Ellis Paul and how we were planning to attend his concert at WPI that night. Tom and I, accompanied by friend and loyal listener Gords, took the free shuttle as planned, departing from Holy Cross at 6:30. We had a great meal at Tortilla Sam's and then walked over to the Riley Commons Coffee House on the WPI Campus where Ellis was performing.

The show was amazing. I really can't describe how awesome it was. I was completely blown away by his stage presence and incredible sense of humor. His sound is so unique and his lyrics are so moving that even when the subject matter is not particularly joyous, a clear inspiring feeling wells inside every listener. While listening to him play, my breath caught in my chest and I go that stupid happy feeling and a sense of wow, this guy is phenomenal. Its times like this that I wish I was a more articulate writer so that I could express to you all the feeling that listening to his music gave me, but I must resort to an old cliché when I say that it touched me deeply.

Okay, I'll try to stop fawning over him long enough to give a proper description of the show. I really should start by acknowledging the opening act, an Irishman (appropriately enough) who called himself Flynn. Flynn is also the producer on Ellis's new album American Jukebox Fables, and seems to be very talented as well. I would recommend checking out his song called White. Anyway, shortly after Flynn, Ellis came out playing. No intro, no hello, just started right with a song. It was very cool. After a few songs, Ellis said that It was good to be back at WPI, to which Tom shouted at the stage that he should come to Holy Cross. Ellis proceeded to make up a drinking song about Holy Cross on the spot. It made my night right there. He could have walked off the stage at that point and I would have been satisfied. But he didn't. He stayed and rocked the place.

I'd be lying if I said I was a huge Ellis fan going in, but you bet your ass I was on the way out. We got him to sign one of his CDs to the Irish Coffee Hour and we'll try to scan that in and put it on the site so everyone can see. So to our loyal listeners, we urge you to check out Ellis Paul and you can be sure to hear more of him on the show from now on.

The world is a sadder place without him.

What...No Coffee? 1/25/2005
I know what you all must be thinking; "Hey it’s 5pm on Tuesday and I find myself here, in the Worcester Area and I feel like listening to my favorite radio show on 88.1 the Irish Coffee Hour but they do not apear to be on." The truth is that we are just as surprised as you that we are not on the air right now. Apparently the higher powers in charge of WCHC are doing some "maintenance" on our beloved 'Studio B' and gave us no warning what so ever. I personally walked all the way to the studio with every intention of pluggin’ in the old iPod and kickin' out the jams per usual, but it was not to be. They assure us that the studio will be open for business tomorrow so please tune in next week for our triumphant return. Also if you like the Irish Coffee Hour and you're up late Thursday Night/Friday Morning you can hear yours truly along with Tom on the Really, Really Ridiculously Late Show

Happy Thanksgiving! 11/22/2004
We at the ICH would like to take this opportunity to say Happy Thanksgiving to all of our loyal listeners. Unfortunately our travel plans do not accommodate for our show tomorrow - so most likely WCHC will be broadcasting random MP3 rotations in our place. We're all very sorry and we'll certainly miss doing the show. Please tune in to our triumphant return to the airwaves next Tuesday (Nov 30th) same time same station.
Thank you all and have a Happy Holiday.

Michelle Reis NOT GAY! 11/21/2004
RETRACTION:

New evidence suggests that we at the Irish Coffee Hour were mistaken when we reported on air that Michelle Reis was a lesbian on last weeks show. Apparently the whole thing was an inside joke that spiraled wildly out of control. We apologize for any confusion or stress this may have caused. We at the ICH are all huge supporters of the gay and lesbian culture and made a genuine error in judgment that we all regret deeply. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
-ICH

p.s. This ENTIRE thing was just a joke based on the shirt Michelle is wearing above. We didn't mean to offend anyone.
